Dear Delhi Runners,

I am beginner in long distance running. I am currently preparing for the DHM.
I am from Pune, but will be reaching Delhi a day before Raceday. So not used to Delhi weather conditions.
My longest practice run till now has been 10Km only.

Till now in my prep for DHM, i have run both in the mornings and the evenings. I find evening much more energetic than the morning runs, probably because of the energy gained throughout day. But the fact that DHM will be held in the morning i want to know, how could i make myself feel energetic for the Race day? What to eat just before a run or the night before?

Thanks
Athar

Hi Athar,
Welcome!
Delhi weather will be quite pleasant during the ADHM, much like Pune. Do practice one 10k every week from now on and then try your best for the event day. When I did my first HM, the longest I had run was 15 K (with difficulty :( ), and I was advised that if you can run 10k easily, you can HM.
I too run in the evening (due to my schedule) and find it less crowded at least. Believe me, when I have to run in morning for an event, I then find it easier. So you shouldn't have any problem on the race day.
About diet, try to eat more carbohydrates 3 days prior to the race. On the race day, I prefer to eat a little bit of milk and cereals with half a banana at least 1.5 hrs before the race.
Even if you can't sleep well the night before, don't worry, it won't spoil your race (contrary what is generally advised), I have not been able to have a good night's sleep before any of the events.
Hope this helps!
Hi,

I would be trying your diet suggestions for sure for my weekend morning practice runs also, so that the Raceday i dont feel different. Would be better to get used to that 2-3 weeks in advance.
So according to you running a 21Km practice run before a HM is actually not necessary?

Wishing the same here that Race day goes off smooth :)

Thanks a lot Tanmoy for you valued suggestions.

Hey,

How did you go with the carbohydrate tip from Tanmoy. That's one smart tip and I second that.

Cheers,
Amit
